Grey Man Engineering was chosen to undertake an ambitious project in collaboration with UPP, via the main contractor Harris Evolution, to install new heating boilers in student accommodation blocks across several key university towns in the UK, including Oxford, Reading, Exeter, Plymouth, and York. This initiative aimed to enhance the living conditions for students by ensuring that their accommodation is both comfortable and energy efficient. The project was particularly challenging as it involved working in live halls of residence, necessitating careful planning and execution to minimise disruption to the student’s daily lives.

The installation of new heating boilers in such environments requires a high degree of coordination and expertise. Grey Man Engineering, known for our ability to deliver these quick turnaround projects, were well-suited for this task. Our teams are adept at working within tight timescales, which is crucial given the limited windows available for such extensive work in occupied buildings. By leveraging our skills and experience, we were able to efficiently manage the complexities of the project, ensuring that the installations were completed on time and to the university specifications.

Moreover, this project exemplifies the importance of collaboration between various stakeholders. Grey Man Engineering and UPP achieved a seamless integration of the new systems. These projects were carried out over multiple sites over a 3-year period and were completed over a 6-week period while the heating system was not required.
